Transportation

The Sunshine Coast Highway (Highway 101) stretches from the Langdale Ferry Terminal to Lund on the Powell River peninsula, and is maintained by the BC Ministry of Transportation and Highways. Within the Town of Gibsons boundaries, the highway is known as Gibsons Way. Port Mellon Highway stretches from Langdale Ferry Terminal to the Howe Sound Pulp and Paper facility at Port Mellon. The highway is a major truck route for goods arriving by BC Ferries or by barge (offloaded at Hillside Industrial Park on the Port Mellon Highway).

BC Ferries offers passenger, car and commercial truck ferry service from Horseshoe Bay, with sailings every other hour from 7:20 a.m. to 9:20 p.m. (From Langdale, sailings are every other hour from 6:20 a.m. to 8:20 p.m.) See www.bcferries.com for schedules, fare information, etc.

City Transfer offers barge service for goods and commercial vehicles between Port of Vancouver and Hillside Industrial Park on the Port Mellon Highway.

A private contractor working with BC Ferries offers scheduled passenger ferry service to Gambier and Keats Island from the Langdale terminal. Information on schedules and fares is available at the terminal.

Water taxi service to Vancouver and the nearby islands is offered by a number of private operators working out of Gibsons Harbour, Gambier Harbour and Keats Island. Information about service providers may be obtained from the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority at the Wharfinger Building on the Government Dock (Phone 604.886.8017.)

Short and long-term moorage for private boats at the Government Wharf may be reserved through the Harbourmaster at 604.886.8017. Long and short term moorage is also available from privately-owned Gibsons Marina. Contact by phone at 604.886.8686.

Charter and regular scheduled air service between Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria harbours and Porpoise Bay in Sechelt, and between Vancouver and Victoria airports and Sechelt airport (top of Field Road in Wilson Creek) is provided by Tofino Air and West Coast Air. Under a proposed harbour expansion plan, a floatplane docking facility may be added to Gibsons harbour within the next five years.

BC Transit provides regular hourly bus service aboard level-entry, wheelchair-accessible buses equipped with bike racks, from Langdale terminal to Sechelt via Gibson’s Landing, connecting there with scheduled routes to West Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay and West Porpoise Bay.
