The Gibsons District Energy Utility (GDEU) is a sustainable utility that utilizes renewable energy in the form of heat from the earth. The system consists of infrastructure owned and operated by the Town (pumphouse, distribution lines, geo-energy fields, service connections) and privately owned heat pumps.

The benefits of the GDEU are:

  • Reduced community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Energy price stability for residents
  • A source of long-term, non-tax revenue for the Town

The first phase of this utility supports 58 homes in the Parkland neighbourhood. During 2018, the Town will be exploring options for future extension of the system to serve future phases of the Parkland development as well as the possibility of serving adjacent development properties.
