Geo-exchange Utility

The Gibsons District Energy Utility (GDEU) is a sustainable utility that utilizes renewable energy in the form of heat from the earth. The system consists of infrastructure owned and operated by the Town (pumphouse, distribution lines, geo-energy fields, service connections) and privately owned heat pumps.

The benefits of the GDEU are:

  • Reduced community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Energy price stability for residents

The first phase of this utility supports 58 homes in the Parkland neighbourhood. During 2019/2020, the Town will be exploring options for future extension of the system as well as the possibility of serving adjacent development properties.
