One Water Strategy

In September 2023, the Town of Gibsons and the Sunshine Coast Regional District entered into the Aquifer 560 Watershed Agreement. As part of that agreement, both parties committed to completing an Engineering Support Project to build greater resiliency in the interconnection between the Town and SCRD water distribution systems.

Per the terms of the agreement, the Town engaged Urban Systems Ltd. (USL) to complete the Engineering Support Project. The One Water Strategy emerged out of the scoping process, and Waterline Resources Inc. was brought into the project team. The focus of the One Water Strategy is on recognizing Aquifer 560 as a critical natural asset. The health of Aquifer 560 is dependent on other natural assets, including forests, wetlands, surface water bodies, and the underlying geological formations above the aquifer.
