Chlorination - Town of Gibsons

A tap with water coming out.

It is our mandate from Vancouver Coastal Health to provide the safest and best quality of drinking water at all times. Gibsons’ drinking water is regularly monitored and sampled by Town staff.

General Information

The Town of Gibsons is divided into three water zones. While all three zones are primarily serviced by the Gibsons Aquifer, Zone 3 is linked to the SCRD water network, which occasionally supplements the Zone 3 water supply to provide fire flow backup. As a result, Zone 3 water is chlorinated at all times, while the water delivered to Zones 1 and 2 is not normally chlorinated.

Occasionally, the Town must chlorinate the water being delivered to Zones 1 and 2 to protect the health of the community. This usually occurs when work is being done on water mains and there is a risk of impurities entering the water system.

Whenever possible, the Town posts a Notice of Chlorination in local newspapers, on social media, and on this webpage in advance of the water chlorination.
