Save the Persephone

Join us in helping to preserve this important piece of our Canadian heritage

Save the Persephone is committed to restoring and celebrating the iconic Persephone boat from The Beachcombers TV series. By safeguarding this beloved symbol of our coastal heritage, we aim to create a lasting tribute that connects generations and honours Gibsons’ rich cultural legacy.

Our plans include the complete restoration of the Persephone and the construction of an accessible, weather-protected shelter where the boat will remain on public display for our community and visitors to enjoy.

In order to bring the boat back for public enjoyment sooner, we have divided the project into two phases:

– Phase 1 focuses on completing the boat’s restoration and relocating it to Inglis Park in Lower Gibsons as soon as possible, so it can be on public display throughout the spring and summer.

– Phase 2 will focus on our long-term goal: creating a protective shelter surrounded by an accessible path, seating area and landscaping.

For Phase 1, we have almost reached our goal of $40,000! For the entire project, we will need approximately $450,000 for the construction of a protective shelter and public viewing space. We are seeking public donations to help us get there, but are also actively applying for grants and seeking other funding opportunities.

Together, we can ensure that the Persephone remains a source of pride, connection and a celebration of our maritime roots.
