Art and Artists
Gibsons is home to a vibrant and growing community of artists whose work reflects the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and creative spirit of the Sunshine Coast. Through partnerships, public art initiatives, and local events, the Town of Gibsons supports opportunities for artists to create, share, and inspire.
Below are some of the venues and organizations that provide space, support, and visibility for artists in our community, along with information on public art programs and how to get involved.
Coast Cultural Alliance
The Coast Cultural Alliance’s role is to enhance arts and cultural tourism on the Sunshine Coast and to project a single, strong voice for local culture. The Alliance includes groups, individuals and businesses from the visual, performing, literary, media arts and heritage on the Sunshine Coast.
Gibsons Public Art Gallery
Located in the heart of historic Lower Gibsons, GPAG is a public non-profit art gallery offering professional-level exhibitions and space for up-and-coming artists. They host regular free events and affordable art classes for kids and adults.
Gibsons School of the Arts
Improve your artistic abilities by enrolling in one of six 5-day summer workshops for painters at the Gibsons School of the Arts on the scenic Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada. Contact Sheila at 604-885-3807
Historical Walking Tours
Join Dale Peterson for a 90 minute historical walking tour of Gibsons Landing. Start with the early years with Squamish First Nations, then weave through how and when George Gibson and his two sons arrived. Through colorful narrative stories, Dale shows you what life was like in the 1890s, 1920s, 1950s and along the way explain famous people, divides of the day; both funny and tragic stories. Sunshine Coast Art Crawl
The Crawl takes place over 3 days every fall, where artists open up their homes and studios for one big interactive art show. It is a celebration of displays, demonstrations, and provides an opportunity to meet the artists behind the amazing creations.
Sunshine Coast Arts Council
A volunteer-based society founded in 1966 to raise to profile of local artists and artisans and to broaden the opportunities for Sunshine Coast citizens to enjoy and to participate in cultural activities. The SC Arts Council maintains the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre located at Trail & Medusa in Sechelt.
Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives
The Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives presents the history of the Sunshine Coast and its inhabitants. They have two floors of exhibits to explore as well as a resource room, reference library, and extensive archives with over 9,000 photographs & documents.
Sunshine Coast Spinners’ & Weavers’ Guild
Spinners, weavers, and fibre artists across the Sunshine Coast.
Rogue Arts Festival
The Rogue Arts Festival is a 3-day outdoor, multidisciplinary arts festival where you can immerse yourself in non-stop, genre-crossing music, art, and more.
Music and Theatre
Coast Recital Society
A non-profit society dedicated to the presentation of the finest recitals and chamber music for Sunshine Coast audiences.
Coast String Fiddlers Association (CSFA)
A non-profit group, is committed to promoting the understanding and learning of traditional fiddle music through the support of fiddle instruction and related activities.
Heritage Playhouse
A fully equipped theatre built by the community for the community. This 146-seat venue with light, sound, and projection systems is known for its versatility and superb acoustics.

Sunshine Coast Fibreshed
The Sunshine Coast Fibreshed develops and nurtures a regional fibre system based on local fibre, local natural dyes, and local labour, within a culture of soil-to-soil regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices.
