Interested in running for office in the Town of Gibsons?

The nomination period for Mayor and Councillor opens on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 9 a.m. and closes Friday, September 11, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Nomination papers can be picked up in-person at the Town of Gibsons Municipal Hall or downloaded from the links below.

All nomination papers will be available for public inspection. A list of nominated candidates will be available on this website after September 11, 2026.

To be eligible to be a candidate for Mayor or Councillor, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day,
  • A Canadian citizen,
  • A Resident of British Columbia for at least six months, and
  • Not disqualified from voting in an election in BC or from being nominated, elected to or holding office, or otherwise disqualified by law.
  • There is no requirement for a candidate to be a resident or property owner in the municipality.

Council operates at policy level and delegates day-to-day operations through the Chief Administrative Officer to Town staff, while adhering to the Community Charter, Local Government Act and various other Acts and Statutes of the Province of BC.

Elections BC oversees campaign financing, election advertising and third party sponsor rules.

Local governments have responsibility for administering voting and accepting candidate nomination forms.

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, the following expense limits, inclusive of taxes, apply to candidates during the campaign period for the 2026 general local election:

Mayor: $12,323.78
Councillor: $6,161.89

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local elections, the following third-party advertising limits apply:

Third-party advertising limit (Mayor and Councillor): $924.28
