Public Notice from the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) Ta na wa Yúus ta Stitúyntsam̓ (Rights & Title Department)

When: August 10 to September 30, 2026

The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw would like to inform the public of upcoming salmon habitat restoration work at Ch’ḵw’elhp Indian Reserve 26, located within an important Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw ancestral village site in the area now known as Gibsons Landing on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.

The project is being undertaken in partnership with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, Ministry of Transportation and Transit and the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association.

Restoration activities will focus on improving fish passage through the installation of a series of riffle structures. These enhancements will help reconnect valuable upstream salmon habitat currently improving access to spawning and rearing areas throughout the watershed.

For the safety of workers, we are asking the public not to enter the temporary work areas during the construction period (August 10 to September 30, 2026). We appreciate your patience and cooperation while this important restoration work is underway.
