The Town of Gibsons is providing information about the proposed Armours Beach Project ahead of an assent vote that will be held as part of the 2026 General Local Election on Saturday, October 17.
The proposed Armours Beach Project is a concept for new and upgraded waterfront recreation infrastructure at Armours Beach. The current concept includes water access features, swimming and diving platforms, accessibility features, washrooms and outdoor showers, a sauna, sheltered gathering areas, and spaces for paddling and marine education.
The proposal has been developed through several years of community interest, local partnerships, design work, technical studies and public discussion. The project builds on improvements made at Armours Beach beginning in 2018, including accessibility improvements, a new washroom facility, landscaping and park furnishings.
The Town has applied for funding through the Swim Drink Fish WAVE Prize, which could provide up to 80 percent of the project cost. The project has an estimated total cost of approximately $7.68 million. If the external funding is secured, the Town’s proposed contribution would be approximately $1.536 million, representing 20 percent of the current estimated project cost.
What is being proposed?
The proposed Armours Beach Project would include a combination of fixed and floating infrastructure connected to the existing beach and park.
Proposed features include:
- Floating platforms for swimming, diving and recreation
- Accessible swimming areas, including low-grade ramps and water entry points
- A gradual-entry family swimming area
- A sauna for year-round use
- Spaces for paddling and other water-based activities
- Sheltered areas for gathering and protection from sun and rain
- Washrooms and outdoor showers
- Opportunities for marine education and stewardship
The proposed facilities would be free for public use.
The design remains subject to technical, environmental and regulatory review. The Town’s feasibility work is examining marine conditions, environmental considerations, constructability, operations, public safety, and archaeological and environmental permitting requirements. The design may change as this work progresses.
As part of the 2026 General Local Election on Saturday, October 17, eligible voters will be asked whether the Town should be authorized to borrow funds for its share of the proposed Armours Beach Project.
