Call for Squamish Nation Artists - Town of Gibsons

The Town of Gibsons welcomes proposals for Squamish Nation artwork for a permanent outdoor art installation on the Gibsons Public Art Path.

DETAILS:

The proposed location for the art is White Tower Park in Upper Gibsons.

The site was recently transformed from a vacant field to an innovative natural asset featuring trails and wetland ponds, surrounded by forest. As part of this project, the Town will be looking at giving the park a new name. More info about the location is here: https://gibsons.ca/sustainability/natural-assets/white-tower-park-stormwater-ponds/

The goal of this project is to celebrate more sustainable land management practices and to acknowledge and give cultural context for our community’s location in this time and place in the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation. Participating artists must be members of the Squamish Nation.

Applications will be assessed by the Town of Gibsons Public Advisory Committee by the following criteria:

  • Artistic merit, creativity, and quality of the artist proposal
  • Demonstrated feasibility in terms of proposed budget, timeline, implementation, safety, maintenance & durability

Total budget available for artwork is $21,000.00 (including artist fees, material, delivery & installation). Funds will be released in instalments for design/approval and delivery/installation. Funding is provided by a grant from The Island and Coastal Economic Trust.

Images of the selected artwork may also be used as part of future promotional imagery and wayfinding signage for the Gibsons Public Art Path.

Art must be delivered to Gibsons no later than fall 2025.

Submissions must include:

  • artist C.V.
  • brief artist statement
  • description of the artwork, with notes on the materials and installation
  • proposed design images, with examples of past creative work
