Transportation Strategic Plan

The Town of Gibsons is preparing a Transportation Strategic Plan (TSP) to help improve how people move around the community.

The project will look at key transportation opportunities and constraints in Gibsons today, including:

  • Steep terrain and narrow streets
  • Seasonal traffic changes
  • Safer and more walkable streets and intersections
  • The Sunshine Coast Highway’s role as both a regional corridor and a local main street

The Transportation Master Plan will consider all modes of transportation such as:

  • Walking
  • Rolling (i.e., skateboard/scooter/wheelchair)
  • Taking the bus
  • Driving a car
  • Cycling

It will also identify where enhancements are needed, outline practical projects and recommendations to guide future Town planning, development and investment.

Engagement will confirm and refine transportation directions from previous Town initiatives (including the Active Transportation Network Plan, and the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw updates).

Is it in the Town of Gibsons?

Did you know that the Town of Gibsons covers just 4.31 square kilometres?

While the broader Gibsons community extends beyond the Town’s municipal boundaries into areas of the Sunshine Coast Regional District, the Town has jurisdiction only within its municipal boundaries.

As a result, the Transportation Strategic Plan focuses on transportation within the Town.
