Highlights from the May 2nd Council Meeting

New Code of Conduct signed by Council

Each member of Council signed the new Code of Conduct that was adopted on March 7, 2023. It states that members of the Town of Gibsons or of a Town Committee, must conduct themselves by the following model of excellence:

  • Recognize the diversity of backgrounds, interests and views in our community;
  • Help create an atmosphere of open and responsive government;
  • Conduct public affairs with integrity, in a fair, honest and open manner;
  • Respect one another and the unique role and contribution each of us has in making the Town of Gibsons a better place to work and live;
  • Strive to keep the decision-making processes open, accessible, participatory, understandable, timely, just and fair;
  • Avoid and discourage conduct which is not in the best interests of the Town of Gibsons;
  • Treat all people with whom I come in contact in the way I wish to be treated.

Update on Grants of Assistance

Council approved $3,000 in grants for 2023.

Council also voted to repeal the Grants of Assistance policy 2.7. This will allow them time to reflect and revise the program to better meet the needs of the community and Town. There will be no grants awarded until a new policy is developed.

Council authorized an issuance of development permit and variance for 715 Corlett Road

The proposal for a 33-unit residential apartment building at 715 Corlett Road, accessed from School Road, received authorization from Council to reduce the interior side setback on the east side from 4.5m to 0m to allow the construction of a staircase and pathway attached to the building. The developer can now apply for a building permit.

No third reading for 529 Gibsons Way and Lot 23 Gibsons Way (Stonehurst)

Council voted unanimously to deny a third reading for bylaw amendments regarding the Stonehurst property.

The following  were bylaws adopted

  • 2023-2027 Financial Plan Bylaw No. 1304, 2023
  • 2023 Tax Rates Bylaw No. 1305, 2023
  • Community Recreation Facilities Parcel Tax Bylaw No. 1306, 2023
  • Sewer Parcel Tax Bylaw No. 1307, 2022
  • Water Parcel Tax Bylaw No. 1308, 2022
