Notice of Intent to Consider: New Council Procedure Bylaw No. 1320
Notice is hereby given pursuant to section 124(3) and section 94 of the Community Charter that the Municipal Council of the Town of Gibsons intends to consider adoption of Council Procedure Bylaw No. 1320, 2024 and repeal of Council Procedure Bylaw No. 1207, 2015 at the Regular Meeting to be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall, 474 South Fletcher Road, Gibsons, BC. A Council Procedure Bylaw establishes the general procedures that Council follows in conducting their business.
Key proposed amendments include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Remove sections already addressed by the Community Charter, Local Government Act or Robert’s Rules of Order.
- Provide readability and clarity.
- Allow for meeting schedule changes without a bylaw amendment.
- Update language to reflect legislative changes.
- Align language with the Community Charter and Local Government Act.
- Promote healthy discussion and manageable meeting length.
- Include new content to provide clarity on presiding over meetings. Although this content is optional and does not exist in the current bylaw, it documents expectations and organizational processes.
- Conduct a general clean-up of grammar and content to allow the Corporate Officer to correct typographical errors.
- Provide a reasonable period in a new year in which to schedule meetings.
The relevant documentation pertaining to this bylaw may be inspected on the Town’s website at www.gibsons.ca or at Town Hall during normal business hours – Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., exclusive of Statutory Holidays.
