What is Active Transportation?

Active transportation includes any type of human-powered transportation, including walking, cycling, skateboarding, or using a mobility aid. E-scooters and e-bikes can also fit this category and in some cases may use the same trails and pathways.

Providing more options for active transportation can play an important role in promoting a healthy, equitable, and accessible community.

About the Active Transportation Network Plan

We are working on making it easier for you to walk, bike, scoot, or roll throughout the Town of Gibsons.

The Town of Gibsons is developing an Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP) to improve walking, cycling, and rolling connections and make active transportation a more comfortable and convenient option for people of all ages and abilities. The with input from community members and stakeholders, the ATNP will help the Town prioritize investments and decision-making around active transportation improvements.

We are working with Urban Systems Ltd. to develop this grant-funded project.

Current Status

Virtually all of our active transportation projects include input from Transportation Choices – Sunshine Coast (TraC).

We also actively support Sustainable Sunshine Coast, a newly launched initiative spearheaded by Sunshine Coast Tourism, which is focused on encouraging alternative transportation and supporting tourism businesses and experiences that are better for the environment.
