Town of Gibsons Commissions Well 6

The Town of Gibsons announced today that Well 6 at Oceanmount Boulevard is now fully commissioned. The well, which was first drilled in the summer of 2019 as part of the Aquifer Service Expansion project, will be the largest producing well in the Town, at an estimated 1,900 cubic metres per day. With the addition of Well 6, the Town is licensed to divert a maximum quantity of 1,014,352 cubic metres of water annually from Aquifer 560.Mayor White and Councillor De Andrade getting a tour of the well facility

“The addition of Well 6 will enable the Town to more effectively deliver water to our residents,” says Mayor Silas White. “Building water sustainability in Gibsons through not relying on the SCRD’s Chapman Creek system for Zone 3 was one of the most important initiatives of the Council I was on two terms ago, and I am proud and elated to be here to turn on this well five years later. This will have a significant impact on our regional water challenges by providing a foundation of water sustainability and resilience in the Gibsons area.”

“This facility provides an additional water source in case one of our other wells needs to be temporarily taken offline for maintenance or repairs,” says Trevor Rutley, the Town’s Director of Infrastructure Services. “We want to thank our consulting team at Urban Systems, the prime contractor Industra, and Town staff for all the work that went into making this project a success.”

Final costs for the project are expected to be within the budgeted amount of $1.623M.
